Studio Remix

Studio Remix was an Ontario Crafts Council exhibition that took place August 4 - September 11, 2011.

Curated by Monica Hayward and featuring the work of Aneela Dias d’Sousa, Shuyu Lu, Benjamin Kikkert, Rose-Angeli Ringor, Liss Aston, Sylvia Nan Cheng, Micah Adams and Niko Dimitrijevic.

Studio Remix explores what happens when 8 craftspeople begin to work in a different material other than the one they specialize in. Will their natural aptitude with one medium manifest itself in different ways when applied to a new discipline? The aim of the Studio Remix project is to present a selected number of craftspeople with the opportunity to transcend a particular material and confront, or embrace, a different set of material challenges. By removing craftspeople from their comfort zone, Studio Remix puts form to the underlying forces that drive creative processes.

Expat Report

Expat Report was an Ontario Crafts Council exhibition curated by Lafrenière & Pai Gallery that took place September 23 - October 31, 2010.

Through this exhibition, Megan Lafrenière and Lisa Pai, directors of the Lafrenière & Pai Gallery, ask about the effect of uprootedness or transplantation on artists and their artistic practices.

The exhibition features the work of Pattie Chalmers, Laura Kukkee, Anna Lindsay MacDonald, Sarah Troper and Rachael Wong. As expats or repats, these artists have much to tell us about craft, education, and their home and host countries, and how these factors inform their work.

Ontario Craft '09

Ontario Craft '09 was an Ontario Crafts Council exhibition that took place November 12 - December 31, 2009. One of the ways in which the OCC supports the development of contemporary craft is through a biennial juried exhibition showing the best of our members’ work. Since 1975 the OCC has held juried exhibitions in order to celebrate, examine and assess the state of Ontario craft, and Ontario Craft '09 is the second time renewing this tradition on a larger scale through the Queen St. W. Gallery. Ontario Craft ’09 was juried by Jean Johnson, Jonathon Bancroft-Snell and Shaun Moore, and offers a selection of our province’s most creative and talented makers.

Ontario Craft '07

Ontario Craft '07

The Ontario Craft Council is pleased to present the catalogue from Ontario Craft ’07, our biennial juried exhibition of members work held in 2007. Ontario Craft ’07 represents the OCC's revitalized commitment to both our membership and to our exhibitions program.

Beginning in 1975, the Ontario Crafts Council organized juried exhibitions of works by OCC members from across the province. Historically these exhibitions, highly entered by OCC members, offered the opportunity to celebrate, examine and assess the state of Ontario craft. Today, more than ever, we need to ensure this tradition continues. It is the Councils priority to continually bring craft to the forefront, to help build and engage a knowledgeable audience who truly appreciates the hand-made object. By presenting craft, reviewed by leaders in the industry, we strengthen the message to the public, we provide emerging makers with inspiration and most importantly we provide our members with the opportunity to profile their work.

Pleasure-Purpose

Pleasure - Purpose

In response to this seemingly amorphous area of making, PLEASURE-PURPOSE is an attempt to navigate craft and question its contemporary role; leaving space for the work to speak for itself, and allowing contradictions between different approaches to surface.
