The Lily Yung Memorial Award has been set up in Lily's memory as the newest addition to the Ontario Crafts Council's Awards & Scholarships program. After receiving the John Mather Award for lifetime achievement this past June, Lily had expressed interest in establishing an award that would celebrate senior craftspeople.
Responding to Lily's personal wish, her family established this award to honour her memory. Lily had unflagging energy and creativity - as a mentor, innovator and advocate she was so influential in shaping a contemporary craft discourse. This award, which is to be awarded annually at $1000, acknowledges excellence and innovation in craft as demonstrated by an established professional. The Lily Yung Memorial Award will be awarded for the first time in 2011 and is open to artists working in any craft discipline.

Party in Celebration of Lily Yung
The memorial party details have now been finalized, and Lily's family and friends are very pleased to invite you to the event! The party was an idea that Lily had planned as a way of celebrating her life and to bring all her wonderful friends together. After much thoughtful deliberation, the date and location have been decided.
The party will be held in conjunction with *new* gallery, an artist-run gallery showcasing a broad range of contemporary visual art. Lily was instrumental in bringing together a group of artists for a craft-based exhibition space in 2003 and was a founding member. The 2010 Rings show on display from September 29th to October 17th was Lily's last show as both a coordinator as well as participant and showcases some of the last pieces she was working on. Lily's family and friends felt it was fitting to have the party during the last weekend of the show, so you can go and see the wonderful work of the 14 artists, including Lily. The gallery will be open from 1-6 pm the day of the party.
The date:
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2010 from 2:00pm to 7:00pm
Please try and come before 6:00pm so you can see the 2010 Rings show.
The location:
*new* gallery and Artscape West garden (adjacent to the building the gallery is in), located at 900 Queen Street West, Toronto (Northwest corner of Crawford and Queen West). The party will be mostly outdoors so dress accordingly. We hope the weather will hold but we will have some indoor space if it rains or gets too cold.
Food will be provided courtesy of Lily and her family. Some drinks will be available but please feel free to BYOB.
Consider wearing some of Lily's jewellery to show friends. We encourage reminiscence and story-telling about Lily.
