OCC Washi Lockdown and Auction 2008
13 craftspeople + 1 gallery space x 2 days = infinite possibilities.
Throw in all the washi paper they can handle and you get the Washi Lockdown & Auction in support of the OCC
Over the weekend of June 7th and 8th 2008, thirteen craftspeople working in all media from across Ontario were locked into the Ontario Crafts Council Gallery together for two days. Pooling their creativity, they crafted 38 one-of-a-kind collaborations that incorporate Japanese washi paper. The event and following auction were a resounding success, raising enough funds to help us continue to run this amazing program again in 2009.
Presented by the OCC in partnership with the World Washi Summit and The Paper Place, the Washi Lockdown & Auction developed as a means to engage both our membership and the public in a new and exciting way. The Washi Lockdown was inspired by both the creative potential and beauty of washi paper as well as the pioneering efforts of the Emma Lake International Collaboration.
Step back in time and view the Washi Lockdown and the fantastic pieces created through the eyes of the thirteen participants online through their blog and picture gallery at http://occwashilockdown2008.blogspot.com/2008/06/welcome-washi-fans.html
